The Town of Lauderdale-By-The-Sea -- The Prettiest Small Town in America -- is a charming seaside oasis on the eastern edge of metropolitan Broward County, FL. Nestled between the Atlantic Ocean and the Intracoastal Waterway just north of Fort Lauderdale, the Town is home to warm tropical breezes, spectacular ocean views and quaint motels that attract annual visitors from Europe and around the world. Lauderdale-By-The-Sea Real Estate is primarily a residential with 6,300 permanent Residents, although the Town's peak seasonal population is 11,000. The Town's most-valued natural resource is it spectacular views especially when they are from a luxury condo or underwater in a thriving coral reef teeming with colorful Marine life within 100 yards of the beach, which earned the Town official recognition from the Broward County Commission as the "Shore Diving Capital" of Florida." One of the Town's reefs is also the final resting place for the underwater remains of the SS Copenhagen, an 18th century cargo steamer that sank in 1900. The shipwreck was designated as an official underwater archaeological preserve -- one of only 10 in the entire state -- by the Florida Division of Historical Resources in June 1994.

Incorporated in 1947, Lauderdale-By-The-Sea traces its proud municipal roots to February 1924, when developer William F. Morang purchased and platted the property of Lauderdale-By-The-Sea from Henry S. Moody and John C. Gregory. Several years later, Melvin I. Anglin, a successful building contractor and real estate investor from Indiana, bought the land platted by Morang with the intention of starting a new Town. Anglin later served as the Town's first Mayor.

Lauderdale-By-The-Sea condos have undergone dramatic growth in the past 40 years. In 1960, the Town's population was 1,300 residents. The number of permanent residents residing in Town more than doubled in October 2001 without a single condo for sale sign, when Lauderdale-By-The-Sea successfully annexed the Intracoastal Beach Area, a coastal neighborhood near the condo company in unincorporated Broward just north of Town.
